Reviewed Pokémon Ultra Moon on the New Nintendo 3DS. Codenamed Pokemon Stars, this third version of Sun and Moon harkens back to the third edition. Well, that is as long as GameFreak doesn’t go down The Pokémon Movie route. According to Eurogamer, a version of Pokemon Sun and Moon is in development for the Nintendo Switch. Now that Pokemon Sword and Shield have launched, the near-identical pairing together becoming the Nintendo Switch’s fastest-selling title in the process, The Pokemon Company is drawing in some of the features supporting older games Pokemon Sun and Moon (2016) and their expanded successors Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (2017). We need a fresh adventure and we need to be able to play it wherever, and however, we want. but Game Freak delivered a decent effort with Sun & Moon. I’m frustrated that I’m playing another 3DS Pokémon game when my Switch is right there waiting to get in on the action. The best Pokemon Nintendo Switch games exude the personality of the series and bring a unique charm that other franchises wish they could. It’s just that the releases feel too soon after the original adventures to fully appreciate them, despite all the new features and story content. ![]() This is a great re-release of equally great 2016 games. So there’s nothing inherently wrong with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. If this was on the Switch, I’d be sharing my awesome photography skills all over the social stratosphere, but here I can barely take a screenshot. ![]() It’s not anywhere near on a par to anything you’d get with Horizon Zero Dawn, or even Super Mario Odyssey (this is still 3DS remember), but it does play up to the fact dressing up and bonding with your Pokémon is fun in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. There’s Mantine Surf - a surfing mini-game to get you between islands - and the new photo mode function. With Sun and Moon out in the wild, it’s all hands on deck for Pokémon Stars. The new features - storyline aside - only reinforce that feeling too. According to the Eurogamer sources, development has been going on for quite some time as GameFreak worked on parallel version of Pokémon Sun and Moon, pausing only to further polish up that title several months before release. ![]() Think Pokémon Platinum, Emerald and Yellow. Not only that, but the currently code-named Pokémon Stars will follow the series formula of combining the best of both games in a new generation when it lands on that home console next year. That’s the word according to Eurogamer’s reliable sources, who say that the Nintendo Switch will be graced with a proper Pokémon game. It’s something that the staff at developer GameFreak have been adamant about, desiring to keep Pokémon as a portable experience that encourages battling with strangers.īut with the Nintendo Switch around the corner, it might finally be time for Pokémon to step up to the even bigger leagues. ![]() None of these games have been actual entries in the core franchise that has you exploring a new region and acquiring new friends along the way. Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Rumble U and Pokémon Stadium are a few examples of this.īut they’re all spin-offs. And in a way, Nintendo has done just that. As long as Pokémon has existed as Nintendo’s biggest cash-Miltank on its handheld consoles, so have fan requests for the Big N to port their pocket monsters franchise on over to a home console.
